In recent years, Russia's textile industry has seen a noticeable decline, marked by insufficient production capacity that struggles to meet domestic market demands. The low productivity has led to a trade deficit, heavily relying on imported textiles and clothing in Russia. According to data from the World Trade Organization, in 2020, Russia ranked as the world's tenth-largest importer of clothing, with China and Italy as its primary clothing import partners. Since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine crisis, numerous renowned European and American clothing brands have successively withdrawn from the Russian market. In response, the Russian government has expressed a commitment to vigorously promote domestic textile and clothing manufacturing, aiming to minimize dependence on imports.

Presently, the Russian government is implementing an import substitution policy, actively supporting local textile and clothing producers by providing subsidies and incentives. Under the "2020-2025 Development Strategy" formulated by Russia's Ministry of Industry and Trade, Russia aims to raise the production of domestic clothing and footwear to 50% of the total output by the end of 2035. Vladimir Yefimov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow, commented that in the first three months of this year, the shipment value of clothing manufacturers reached 11.4 billion rubles (approximately $180 million), nearly double that of the same period in 2021. Moreover, on June 13, 2022, the shipment value of clothing manufacturers in Moscow almost doubled.

Currently, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine remains ongoing. In this crisis, the market faces new situations and challenges, but it may also foster new opportunities.

The Russian International Exhibition for Textile and Clothing Industry Equipment, INLEGMASH, is a significant part of the "Russian Textile Industry Week" series of events. Since 1970, INLEGMASH has brought together numerous manufacturers, suppliers, and users of textile and clothing manufacturing equipment. The exhibition not only provides a platform for the collective display of equipment, raw materials, and textiles but also serves as an efficient platform for discussing the most crucial current issues and practical tasks faced by this industry.
